What is this medication used for?

Proscar (Finasteride 5mg) is a medication primarily used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and the condition, "BPH- Finasteride 5mg". This medication works by reducing the levels of male hormones that cause enlarged prostate symptoms, such as frequent and difficult urination. BPH- Finasteride 5mg works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to DHT, which is a potent androgen that causes prostate growth in men with prostate cancer. By lowering DHT levels, Proscar helps to halt the progression of BPH, reducing the risk of acute and long-term complications associated with the condition.

How does this medication work?

Proscar works by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone that is responsible for the miniaturisation of the prostate gland. By lowering DHT levels, Proscar helps to reduce the likelihood that prostate cancer will recur, reducing the need for additional treatments like surgery and radiation therapy.

What should I avoid while taking this medication?

Some medications can interact with this medication, so it is important to let Healthylife know before taking it. List your current medication needs and consult with your healthcare professional before taking Proscar.
